This Sight Word Car Race is a non-competitive game which is great for learning sight words!
It's easy to prepare, fun to play and quick to tidy away.
Materials Needed for the Sight Word Car Race
- 6 toy cars (as you can see, ours are well used!)
- sticky tape
- a large dice ... or a square block.
Preparation for the Sight Word Car Race
Write six sight words on small pieces of paper and then stick, with tape, to the top of the cars - one word for each car.
Draw the race track on a long piece of cardboard. We used cardboard folders, stuck together, so the game board could be folded up and stored easily.
Create the sight word dice by writing one word on each face of the dice. This is why the game is limited to 6 cars/sight words.
How to Play the Sight Word Car Race
Line all the cars up at the start of the race track.
Roll the dice and read aloud the word on the top face of the dice.
Move the car with the matching sight word one space up the track.
Roll the dice and move the matching car. Continue in this manner until one of the cars reaches the finish line.
This game can be played by an individual player, or by a number of players taking turns to roll the dice.
