One way to make reading fun is to leave a note for your child to find.
I was reminded of this just recently.
At the end of the day, I went to go to bed only to discover that was going to be impossible! The bed had been overtaken by dinosaurs which had been strategically placed there by two young men. The dinosaurs were on the attack.
What was a person to do? The way I saw it, I had two options:
Option 1: Put the dinosaurs away.
Option 2: Write a note (on behalf of the dinosaurs) and leave it, with the dinosaurs, on the table to be found by the boys in the morning.
The second option proved the most interesting both for me (after all, who likes 'packing up'?) and the boys (who discovered the dinosaurs the next morning).
The goal of this mini activity, however, was definitely achieved. The boys were reading for fun!
Now if I could just remember to do this more often. Maybe I should leave a dinosaur next to the bed to remind me!
Do you leave notes for your children to discover? If so, where?
