What Is Cloud Dough?
Cloud Dough is a wonderful messy play material which is light and fluffy (sort of what you'd imagine clouds to feel like).
However, it also can be squashed together so it can be sculptured into various shapes. It makes the best sandcastles ever!
The shapes hold together so well so that you can actually pick them up and move them. Try doing that with a sand castle!
Cloud Dough is created out of:
- 8 cups of plain flour
- 1 cup of oil. (Any oil can be used - baby oil, cooking oil, etc. We only had olive oil but that worked well).
To Make Cloud Dough
... simply put all the ingredients in a large container and start mixing it together.
It's very therapeutic. Eventually, the oil mixes into the flour and all the little lumps disappear.
We made cloud dough recently and literally spent hours playing with it.
The best place to play with Cloud Dough is outside as it can be a bit messy.
However, it cleans up very easily especially when everything is squirted off with a hose and water - including the children. It was a hot day! The water became a further play extension after the Cloud Dough had been packed away.
This is an activity that I enjoyed ... I mean ... the boys ... enjoyed greatly!
Daniel even created a video about how to create a mushroom using Cloud Dough - complete with a mushroom stem and mushroom cap. Somehow the photographer, who shall remain nameless, managed to hold the camera on the wrong orientation so the video didn't come out well.
Never mind ... just means we'll have to get the Cloud Dough out so we can play with it again and re-do the video. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it!
