What’s In the Bag? would have to be the easiest and quickest activity/game to organise but it has terrific educational benefits.
The objective of the game is to identify objects hidden in a bag (or in this case, a pillowcase) and then create clues so others can guess what the object is as well.

This junk mail maths activity was developed because our mail box has been filling up with junk mail by the truck loads. (Okay … maybe I exaggerate just a little but we do get a heap of junk mail!)
Making trolls with construction paper is so much fun. It’s an easy art activity to set up, and clean up, with few resources needed. The activity promotes and strengthens many skills. Did I mention that it’s fun – for the children … and adults … who are joining in?

Today we made a Silly Sneaky Snake Word Wheel as an extension of our focus on the story, “Farmer Blake and Sneak Snake”. In this story, the word family of ‘ake’ is focused on. By using this word wheel, children can change the beginning letter to make many different ‘ake’ words (e.g., make, bake, cake, Blake, fake, flake, snake, shake, lake, take, rake, wake, quake).
It’s time for new reading record charts for the boys to use. Each time we read a book, we mark off another spot (usually with a sticker) on the chart. When the chart is completely full, there’s a special reward. This time, I’ve decided to get a bit more creative with reading record chart as we’ve incorporated a pirate ship into the design.
In an attempt to foster more reading, I’m endeavouring to place random notes around the house in odd places … just for fun. These notes will be positioned in areas just the right height for little people to read. The idea is to put notes up after the boys have gone to bed. The next day, hopefully, the boys will discover the notes as they progress through the day.
Here’s a writing and comprehension activity based on the story, “Hog and Frog”. It can be downloaded for free.
