Ever since I read about drawing with light, I’ve wanted to try it with the boys. Last night, we finally had the opportunity. This is something you really have to try as it’s so effective! The Very Hungry Caterpillar Art Project
This art project is based on Eric Carle’s book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The activity allows children to look at the illustrations in the book and then work towards creating their own gigantic caterpillar.
The process is enjoyable and the end result colourful. The caterpillar can be used to promote literacy at the same time by adding written words. Continue reading
Creating An Aluminium Foil Collage
Creating a collage with aluminium foil was the project for today’s art experience.
This was a valuable learning experience as it enabled the boys to mould with a material that held its shape – enabling more of a 3 dimensional aspect to be added to the collages.
The boys declared the best part of this activity was definitely playing with the aluminium foil. It could be squashed, flattened, and manipulated so that it provided a 3 dimensional aspect to the collage.

Drawing Nature
Drawing nature is a fantastic way to encourage children to look around them and see the wonderful shapes and patterns which surround us. On a recent walking adventure into a nature reserve, we took along some extra supplies – a couple of pads of paper and some pens. I’d thrown these in on the off chance the boys would be interested in drawing during the trip. This proved to be a worthwhile activity which was well received – hooray!!! Continue reading
Body Drawings
As part of our studies on the human body, we created body drawings. This was heaps of fun and involved art as well as language. The end result of life-sized drawings brightened up the room considerably. This is a good activity to expand children’s vocabulary in regards to body parts. Continue reading
